Granite Mountain Wilderness

An easily identifiable landmark located on the outskirts of Prescott, this 9,799 acre wilderness is characterized by rugged granite boulders, some the size of a house, stacked one atop the other to elevations that exceed 7,600 feet. The Metate Trailhead in Granite Basin is the primary portal to the wilderness which has two maintained trails. Hiking groups are limited to 15 people; equestrian groups to 10 animals.
